HEALING QUILTS IN MEDICINE
The Art Quilt Study Group founder, creator and mentor Judy House, quilt artist, created the vision for the Healing Quilts in Medicine Project. Judy proposed to lead a group of 37 selected contemporary quilt artists who were to design and donate their art to be exhibited at the Torpedo Factory and then installed as permanent collection at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC in 2005. Our courageous leader passed away before the exhibit installation and exhibition of these powerful art quilts.
We were to research and document animals, plants and minerals that are used in the cure and healing of cancer. These wonderful quilts have since moved to Bethesda, Maryland, to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in 2011.
I have remained a student of the Art Quilt Study Group, meeting monthly, at Artistic Artifacts and mentored by Cyndi Souder, quilt artist, author, teacher.
